Based on the development of the International Standard, the professionalization and harmonization of GITT sector shall be achieved through a certification Project. In this
framework, a certification system has been designed for travel agency suppliers to meet the Standard requirements: “audit and certification of all the infrastructures, procedures and services offered by an establishment for the GITT sector”.

This certification aims to meet the needs expressed by the Government Travel Units and the suppliers that took part in the requirements analysis.

GITT certification is linked to the United Nations validation and seal through UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training And Research). UNITAR ensures that all certifiable requirements have a transversal sustainability component.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) offers training and development activities for Governments, and is part of the United Nations system. All certification processes have a transverse sustainability component. That is why some of the members of the certification committee are part of this Institution.
